Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: black or orange food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. For the brownie layer: In a bowl, melt butter and mix in cocoa powder. Combine sugars and eggs until smooth, then add flour to form the brownie batter and fold in half the chocolate chips.
  3. For the cookie layer: In another bowl, cream softened butter with sugars until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add flour and food coloring if desired.
  4. Spread half of the brownie batter in the pan, dollop cookie dough on top, and pour remaining brownie batter over it. Sprinkle leftover chocolate chips on top.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until edges are firm but center is still slightly soft. Allow cooling before cutting into squares.
