Ingredients
Scale
For the filling:
- 4 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the puff pastry:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly and set aside.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet. Place the apple mixture in the center, spreading it evenly, leaving about 1 inch around the edges.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the apples, sealing the edges by pressing them together with a fork. You can also cut slits in the top pastry to create a vent for the steam.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the puff pastry to give it a golden finish.
- Sprinkle the coarse sugar on top, if desired.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving. Optional: Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
Notes
- You can use store-bought apple pie filling for a quicker option.
- For a richer flavor, add a handful of raisins or chopped walnuts to the filling.
- This dessert is best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
